Sexual Diversity in Islam: – A Literary Zikr Project
On behalf of Muslims for Progressive Values, Tynan Power produced an adaptation of "Sexual Diversity in Islam: Is there room in Islam for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Muslims?" This Literary Zikr Project was produced in 2010, and is adapted from the chapter “Sexuality, Diversity, and Ethics in the Agenda of Progressive Muslims'' by Dr. Scott Siraj al-Haqq Kugle in Progressive Muslims (ed. Omid Safi). The project was generously funded by the Human Rights Campaign.
Approaching Islam Queerly
During the last two decades the topic of Islam and homosexuality has received increased attention particularly from scholars and activists involved in challenging and disrupting dominant heteronormative religious paradigms. Islamic Texts: A Source for Acceptance of Queer Individuals into Mainstream Muslim Society
By Muhsin Hendricks, This article attempts to reveal that Islam, at its very core, does not condemn non-heterosexual sexual intimacy. Instead, it is embraced as part of a divine plan. Islam, in its true meaning of peace and justice, accommodates the individual’s sexual orientation as an intrinsic part of their biological and psychological makeup.
Islam, Sexual Diversity and Access to Health Services
At the 10th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP), Busan, South Korea held in August 2011, the Working Group brought together faith-based MSM in Asia and the Pacific, with a range of key experts, to discuss faith, sexual diversity, impact on stigma and discrimination, and access to health, and to formulate strategies. In particular, the discussion raised how religious beliefs, values and practices impact on the constructions of sexualities and masculinities and the resulting frameworks of male-to-male sex. It also highlighted how these constructs have impacts on sexual health, such as access to services including care and support for such marginalized and socially excluded populations. To date, there has not been much literature on this.
